Tom Leung, Lantau Yacht Club’s new Marina Manager

Ivan Lee, Vice President of Lantau Yacht Club, has praised new Marina Manager Tom Leung, who was appointed at the start of the year as the Discovery Bay facility looks to build on its recent accolade as Hong Kong’s first 5 Gold Anchor marina.

Having soft opened in September 2020, LYC was granted with its premier accreditation by the Australia-based Marina Industries Association soon after the club’s one-year anniversary.

“LYC’s mission is to offer premium yachting facilities and become the preferred mooring destination and yacht club in Hong Kong, so we are delighted to have Tom on board,” Lee said.

“Tom has worked in several maritime services providers and yacht clubs, and brought with him a wealth of experience in marina operations and customer services. He is determined to go the extra mile to ensure the safety of the marina and that of our members and their properties.”

LYC is Hong Kong’s only marina purpose built to accommodate superyachts and its residents include a 42.5m Pershing 140, Mangusta 130, Sanlorenzo SX112 and SD126, Azimut Grande 35 Metri, Custom Line Navetta 30, Princess X95 and the 40m Silentworld. The club said some members expect even larger superyachts, including over 60m, to arrive in the coming years.

As it seeks to expand its offerings in 2022, LYC says it will start to host contractors providing yacht care, maintenance and management services, a chandlery, a water toys shop, yachting academy and wakesurfing instruction.

Charlotte Ho, Director of Hospitality Marketing and Membership of Auberge Hospitality, the hospitality arm of Hong Kong Resort Company Limited, the marina’s developer, said: “We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our service partners and look forward to building an all-encompassing maritime ecosystem here at LYC to promote water activities and a premium yachting lifestyle.”

The club has become an established event venue and last year hosted Ferretti Group’s preview of Asia’s first Custom Line Navetta 30, the overnight Princess Yachts Experience, and the Prestige Exclusive Day & Asia Yachting Brokerage Boat Show, as well as private member events. Potential events this year could include a yacht show organised by the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association.

LYC’s initiatives have included Yachtcation packages allowing non-members to visit and stay overnight with their yachts and use the facilities at the club as well as enjoy other attractions in Discovery Bay.

Lee said: “LYC will continue to maintain close contact with the industry and yachting lovers and provide more tailor-made services and offers to the yachting community.”
