Sunreef Yachts has announced the sale of the 43M Eco, a project announced earlier this year. The Polish builder has described the 42.7m (140ft) superyacht with a 15.4m (50ft 6in) beam as the ‘world’s biggest electric leisure catamaran’.

The Sunreef 43M Eco is a solar-electric version of the Sunreef 43M (formerly Sunreef 140), a design unveiled late last year, which showcased the model’s spectacular three-sided beach club.

Equipped with composite-integrated solar panels, a hydro-generation system, electric engines and performance sails, the will offer unlimited autonomy and superyacht luxury. Its electric propulsion comes from two 200kW engines, which allow for e-motoring at a cruising speed of 11 knots and a top speed of 14 knots.

The design incorporates a unique alfresco lounging and dining space in the aft cockpit. Below, with the large hydraulic platform lowered and two fold-out bulwark terraces open, the Sunreef 43M Eco creates a vast walkaround beach club, billed as an ‘ocean lounge’.

The relaxation area can be entirely customised and can welcome a drinks bar, gym or a generous storage room for water toys and diving gear. Underneath the aft cockpit, the discreet garage accommodates two jetskis.

The interior décor will incorporate a variety of sustainably-sourced materials and fabrics, while the 43M Eco can accommodate up to 12 guests. The Sunreef 43M Eco will be also equipped with an energy-saving air-conditioning system.

There are multiple options for the side lockers

Francis Lapp, founder and President of Sunreef Yachts, announced the sale of the 43M Eco at the builder’s 20th anniversary party in Monaco, where he said most enquiries for new Sunreef catamarans were for solar-electric models from the new Eco range.

Lapp and his son Nicolas, the builder’s Chief Technical Officer, also announced a groundbreaking hydrogen yacht project. Sunreef was recently commissioned to build an 80ft sailing catamaran combining hydrogen power and electric propulsion “to achieve unrivalled autonomy for a new level of eco-conscious cruising”, according to the builder.

Hydrogen will be used to power both the appliances and the catamaran’s engines. The yacht will also use Sunreef’s patented solar-power system with cells fully integrated with the composite bodywork. The company’s R&D department is currently developing a system to use solar power to produce hydrogen on board.

Sunreef exhibited its first Eco sailing catamaran, the 80 Eco Marie-Joseph, alongside an 80 Sunreef Power, Kokomo, at both this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show. In Monaco, Marie-Joseph hosted viewings of many VIPs including an official visit of HSH Prince Albert II.

Sunreef is represented in Singapore by Hong Seh Marine.
