Josh Lee, founder and Managing Director of Thailand-based Lee Marine, has said the Covid-19 pandemic has benefited Asia’s yachting industry as people look more at ways to enjoy their local surroundings rather than international attractions.

“Regionally, yachting is booming, finally,” said Lee, a regular inclusion in Yacht Style’s annual list of Asia’s Yachting Leaders. “We all knew it would come. However, this shift took a pandemic for Asian clients to really consider yachting.

“The wealth is there, yet traditional holidays like skiing in Europe or Disneyland USA are now not possible. Hence, considerably accelerated awareness of the yachting industry is occurring, not only in Asia but worldwide.”

Lee said both new-build yachts and pre-owned are sparking strong interest and sales, citing Riviera motor yachts as a suitable fit for Asia’s tropical climes. Lee Marine is Riviera’s longest-serving worldwide dealer and recently signed a newly agreement with the Australian builder.

“Clients faithful to this proven brand enjoy moving up through the range,” Lee said. “This is the case with a soon-to-be announced Lee Marine/Riviera project.”

Lee Marine and Ferretti Group recently announced a parting of ways after the dealership had represented the Ferretti Yachts, Pershing and Riva brands for nearly two decades in Thailand.

“Lee Marine is honoured to have been a part of the intricate growth in Southeast Asia representing the Ferretti Group for nearly two decades,” the company said in a statement.
As well as Riviera, Lee Marine also represents Cantiere delle Marche (CdM), the Italian builder of explorer-style steel superyachts from 80-150ft (24-46.5m). “At Lee Marine, we see CdM as the future for ‘lifetime’ owners,” Lee said.

In 2018, Lee Marine purchased the licence for Northrop & Johnson Asia-Pacific, a leading superyacht brokerage and charter company. Lee Marine also remains active as a broker for Ferretti Group products over 30m along with other superyachts from selected shipyards worldwide. Lee has a full custom steel and aluminium project starting construction soon, but details remain confidential.

“Our pre-owned listings are carefully selected, offering a wide range of choices for all levels of boat buyers. Lee Marine brokers have the experience and product knowledge, and are well-known for their attentive after-service care,” Lee said.

“Lee Marine has had its challenges and many successes. We reach out, pioneering new ways forward, making brave choices, yet remain committed to staying grounded in the clients’ best interest.”
