In celebration of the Singapore Grand Prix, Sunreef Yachts and Hong Seh Marine hosted an intimate evening with two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso, a Sunreef ambassador and owner of an upcoming 60 Sunreef Power Eco.
The event was held at Dolce Vita restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, where VIPs included Dimitri Jansen, Sunreef’s Chief Marketing Officer, and Karim Hamza, Sunreef Sales Representative in the UAE, along with Edward Tan and Della Pearce, Hong Seh Marine’s Executive Director and Director respectively.
Alonso shared his vision of electric yachting, with the F1 star emphasising that he believes Sunreef leads the way in sustainable without compromising luxury.
“Sunreef is the only company that takes sustainability to a very serious level,” Alonso said. “For me, the multihull platform is also important because it provides exceptional comfort, ultimate stability and unlimited possibilities for customisation.”
Alonso commissioned his 60 Sunreef Power Eco last year, with a public signing at Yacht Club de Monaco, as the Spaniard joined the likes of fellow F1 world champion Nico Rosberg and tennis legend Rafa Nadal as a Sunreef ambassador.
This year, Alonso said in an interview that he was committed to Sunreef’s focus on clean energy and embraced buying his all-electric yacht, admitting that his customised catamaran’s must-haves include a barbecue, top-class audio system and water toys.
“The world is moving in this direction. We are more aware and want more sustainability. We have seen important changes over the last years in global mobility, and to me it makes perfect sense to go for an electric catamaran. This type of vessel gives you a closer bond with the seas. The world is going electric and yachts should also follow,” Alonso said.
“Sunreef is known for high quality and has earned a great reputation over the last two decades. I really wanted to build a catamaran because I wanted to enjoy more space and all the other advantages that multihulls bring. At the same time, my vision was to build a luxury craft of the highest quality. Sunreef matched all my requirements in terms of space, catamaran expertise, lifestyle and luxury. It was a no-brainer for me.”
Hong Seh Marine was appointed as Sunreef’s Singapore dealer in August 2022. The dealership agreement includes Sunreef Yachts’ full range of sailing and power multihulls and its new Eco range of solar-powered luxury catamarans.
Founded by Francis Lapp in 2002, Sunreef is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year following two decades of designing and manufacturing high-end custom catamarans in Gdansk in northern Poland, where it currently builds across two production facilities. Sunreef is also developing a new production facility in the UAE.
