Nautor’s Swan is developing its first-ever motor yacht, the Swan Shadow, and is scheduled to launch the first unit in the spring. Renowned for its sailing yachts, which it has built in Finland since 1967, the company conceived the Shadow as a chase or shadow boat for Swan owners, although the 43ft 4in yacht has evolved to become a multi-purpose boat that can be configured for other uses such as a fishing boat, day boat and Limo tender.
Roy Capasso, Swan Shadow Project Leader and Commercial Director, said: “By making an analysis of the competitors, we understood that most of the products currently on the market are limited to just a single specific usage of the boat.
“Swan Shadow is designed to fill the void of a true multi-purpose yacht and provides a powerboat that can meet all the owners’ needs, giving the opportunity to choose and change on demand the accessories that define its use. We created the perfect bespoke yacht in 40ft.”
Offering a 14ft 10in beam, the yacht has a twin-stepped V hull and a flush deck, although the aft platform wrapped around the three outboard engines can be raised to become a passarelle or lowered like a swim platform. Engine options range from 225hp to 350hp each, producing a top speed of 55 knots. With triple 300hp Mercury engines, fuel consumption at 30 knots is estimated be 3 l/nm.
Furniture can include an aft-facing triple sunpad and a table with two facing bench seats, all of which can be added or removed with a bolt-on system. The fixed helm station features a double bench and a single seat to port, while forward is a double cabin and head below, and seating in the bow, where a crew cabin can be included.
Roof options range from a shorter T-Top to an extended Long Top. The latter can be equipped with telescopic pillars and moving glass panels to offer an enclosed version suitable for inclement weather or for use as a Limousine. However, a fishing boat set-up may use the T-Top and remove all the standard furniture, replaced by a fishing chair aft.
Storage is built in under deck and additional topside bags can be selected to offer more storage volume under the bulwark, allowing easy access to gear while cruising.
Leonardo Ferragamo, President of Nautor’s Swan, said: “For so many years we’ve been thinking about launching a power boat, but we always resisted this temptation until we really felt we had something really special and unique to present. And this is what is happening with Swan Shadow. She is full of the ingredients we believe in and we’re confident we’re going to make an important statement in the power yacht segment.”
Nautor’s Swan builds sailing yachts across three ranges: Swan Yachts (48, 54, 58, 65, 78), Maxi Swan Yachts (88, 98, 120) and ClubSwan Yachts (36, 50, 80, 125).
