Sanlorenzo is scheduled to debut the SL120Asymmetric at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival (September 7-12), where it also plans to showcase the SD118, the first model in its semi-displacement line to feature asymmetric design, albeit only on the upper deck.
Bernardo Zuccon of the Zuccon International Project studio was responsible for the external and interior design of the SL120A, which has a length of 36.9m (121ft) and a beam of 7.6m (25ft).
The asymmetrical configuration – originally developed from an idea by car designer Chris Bangle – has been applied to the aft part of the main deck. A half-length starboard side deck runs from the cockpit to midships, while there’s no side deck to port, which increases the internal living area by 8sqm.
The saloon features a dining table placed lengthways to port, where there’s full-height glazing. To starboard is the lounge area, as well as side doors that open to the side deck and a fold-down balcony.
The side deck leads to stairs up to the flybridge, where there are a C-shaped sofa and sunpads forward of the deckhouse and stairs down to the foredeck, which has a similar sofa-and-sunpad arrangement.
The foredeck also has direct access from the main-deck owner’s suite, which occupies the full width of the hull due to the absence of any side decks in the forward half of the yacht.
The main part of the flybridge features a wet bar and dining table midships for outdoor dining, while the aft area is clear for sun loungers and other loose furniture.
On the lower deck, the aft garage can be transformed into a 45sqm beach club due to folding terraces. The deck also includes four double guest cabins and crew accommodation for five forward.
The yacht is fitted with twin MTU 16V2000M96L engines for a top speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of 11, and a fuel capacity of 20,000 litres.
The SL120A will become the flagship of Sanlorenzo’s planing line and join the existing SL78, SL86, SL96A and SL102A models. The latter was the first Asymmetric model from Sanlorenzo and premiered at Cannes in 2018, with a unit arriving in Singapore the following year.
The SL96A made its world debut at Boot Dusseldorf in January 2020. This year, multiple units of the SL96A and SL102A have been sold to Hong Kong and will arrive in the first half of 2021, along with an SL96A sold in Singapore.
Nick Stratton, Sanlorenzo Asia Sales Manager, said: “We knew the Asymmetric concept was destined to be a success. Enthusiasm among clients for the significant space increase, both inside and out, has been the main factor in decision making.
“When using the yacht for the first time, the clever design becomes apparent, with all spaces connected in a seamless way. A larger yacht suddenly becomes much more user-friendly and sociable. It has been our best-selling range of yachts this year and we expect an additional surge of interest upon arrival of the new Asymmetric yachts in Asia in early 2021.”
