The first leg of the Liberty Bitcoin Youth Foiling World Cup scheduled for February 19-March 12, 2021, will be held in Italy due to the Covid-19 situation in Hong Kong, announced the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC).
A statement from the club read: “We are saddened to no longer be able to host the event in Hong Kong and have decided to move the event to a new location, while keeping the dates and racing format.”
The inaugural event is the first in a series of three. The intention is for the second event to be held at Lake Garda in northern Italy in July/August 2021 and the third event to be held in Hong Kong in January 2022.
The winning team with the best total scoring, based on the three planned events, will be entitled to one Bitcoin provided by Liberty Bitcoin Fund. As of December 7, 2020, the market value of one Bitcoin was US$19,320.
Each event will feature between 12 and 18 teams. Yacht clubs from all over the world are invited to participate, with priority given to teams that entered the original event scheduled in Hong Kong. The participating teams in the first event in Italy will have a first right of refusal to join the events at Lake Garda and Hong Kong.
Teams shall consist of three or four crew members and shall race with both genders or all females onboard. Crew must be born on or between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2003.
