The Jet Zero Emission, a Switzerland-based start-up, has announced that its new hydrogen-powered hydrofoil boat will be launched in Dubai ahead of COP28 (28th Conference of Parties), the annual United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference that will be held in Abu Dhabi from November 6-17, 2023.
Founded by French yachtsman Alain Thébault, The Jet Zero Emission has announced agreements with UAE-based Zenith Marine Services and DWYN to manufacture The Jet, a clean-energy boat designed to glide silently 80cm above the water at a cruising speed of 40 knots. The company has not yet confirmed where The Jet will be manufactured.
The Jet is designed to carry 8-12 passengers and is equipped with two fuel cells and an air-conditioner as well as other clean-tech, environmentally friendly technologies that help reduce carbon emissions.
Thébault, inventor of the all-electric SeaBubbles prototypes and a world sailing speed record holder on l’Hydroptère, said: “The Jet is going to be the world’s first boat to sail without noise, waves or emissions and have the capability of flying 80cm above the waters. Dubai is an ideal destination for innovators and companies from around the world to develop their innovative projects and reach their desired success.”
Last October, the Emirates announced the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, a national drive to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
