Australia played host to the Asia-Pacific debut of the recently launched Oceanis 40.1 as the three-day Boating Rendezvous – Sydney 2020 showcased nine Beneteau motorboats and sailing boats, along with Lagoon 42 and Excess 12 sailing catamarans.
The Oceanis 40.1 is one of two new sailing yachts recently unveiled by Beneteau and was among a good mix of sailboats, powerboats, monohulls and multihulls in Darling Harbour.
About 150 visitors attended the register-only VIP event, which was organised by Groupe Beneteau with Australian dealers Flagstaff Marine (Beneteau, Excess), Chapman Marine Group (Beneteau) and The Multihull Group (Lagoon).
The Oceanis 40.1 was among five Asia-Pacific premieres along with the First 27 sailing yacht, the Antares 11 and Gran Turismo 32 OB motorboats, and the Excess 12.
The show also marked the Australian debut of the First Yacht 53, which had its world premiere at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival along with the Oceanis 30.1, another yacht on display at the Boating Rendezvous.
Vianney Guezenec, Groupe Beneteau’s Managing Director Asia Pacific, said: “We were delighted to showcase new and popular Beneteau, Lagoon and Excess models at the first Boating Rendezvous in Sydney.
“We are confident in the strength of the Australian market and in return for our customers’ trust in our products, we’ll keep launching more new models in the country and across Asia-Pacific. We’re working closely with our local dealers to build an even stronger presence in the region and planning to stage more Rendezvous events.”
The First Yacht 53 was the biggest sailing yacht on display, while a Swift Trawler 47 was the biggest of the motorboats, which also included a Flyer 8 and Flyer 10, the flagship of this dayboat range.
The Boating Rendezvous was an appointment-only event and visitors applied through multiple digital channels. The boat viewings, sea trials, ‘take the helm’ courses and other activities were conducted in small groups to improve the visitor experience.
Two webinars were organised for media and partners. A Beneteau webinar was held just ahead of the event, with product teams introducing the new models and product strategy. On the show’s final day, Australian media interviewed Thibaut de Montvalon and Bruno Belmont, Director and Product Design Manager respectively at Excess, to discuss Groupe Beneteau’s newest brand.
