Fraser’s Market Intelligence department has provided Yacht Style with data showing that global sales of pre-owned superyachts in the first quarter of 2021 have smashed Q1 records since data was compiled from 2011. The total of 184 sales of pre-owned superyachts (24m-plus) easily surpassed the previous record of 123 in 2018.
Exactly half of the first-quarter sales were in the 24-30m segment, more than doubling the equivalent sales in 2019 (37) and 2020 (36). The 58 first-quarter sales in the 30-40m segment were more than double the 2019 figure (28) and over 75 per cent higher than last year (33).
Raphael Sauleau, CEO of Fraser, told Yacht Style: “There is a definite sense that those who may have been putting off a potential yacht purchase until ‘another day’ are realising that day is now. With over 20 per cent of buyers now purchasing for the first time and many others deciding to take advantage of a wide range of market offers, yachting really has come into a time of its own.
“The search for an escape that brings freedom, privacy, a controlled environment and the luxury of quality time spent with family and friends is leading more people to yachting. And that demand is replicated within the charter market, as increased vaccinations and more countries re-opening now clear the way for what is set to be a very busy and gratefully rewarding summer.”
