Nuvolari Lenard continues to develop its series of NL-branded models, which started with the S1 (47m) and now includes the NL 50 Plus (52m). Designs for the larger NL 60 Plus and NL 65 Plus models are set to be unveiled later this summer.
The first two units of the S1 are already in build at Turkish builder Mengi Yay, with the first due to launch next year and debut at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show. The first NL 50 Plus is also under construction at the same shipyard. Nuvolari Lenard is responsible for exterior and interior design of the S1 and NL 50 Plus, with Dutch studio Van Oossanen handling naval architecture.

Founded in 1992 by Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, the Venetian design studio celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, having established itself as one of the world’s leading designers of custom megayachts built by the likes of Germany’s Lürssen, Italy’s CRN and Perini Navi, Dutch shipyard Oceanco, and US builder Palmer Johnson.
Carlo Nuvolari said: “The Nuvolari Lenard Plus Range and the NL S1 model not only epitomise the freedom and luxury a superyacht offers but also capture the expertise in all stages of design and construction that the Nuvolari Lenard team has garnered over three decades at the forefront of the industry.
“The essence of these projects is in the details, from the best of Italian style to the finest finishing, and from the considered layout to the balance of form and function.”

The S1 features a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, has a 9m beam and offers 499GT of volume. Conceived for experienced owners who want a vessel capable of significant range without compromising on cruising speed, the 47m superyacht offers a 4,000nm range at 12 knots, benefiting from a powerful, stable and efficient hull shape by Van Oossanen.
Nuvolari Lenard has created a contemporary yet timeless profile that focuses on the practicalities of extended voyaging. The beach club and watersports room forward of the large aft platform cater to watersports and diving, while the S1 can carry a 7.2m guest tender, a service and rescue tender, and a jet-ski.

Protected deck spaces cater to all-season cruising in a variety of climates, while interior highlights include a generous owner suite on the bridge deck and a private library-cum-saloon with balcony on the main deck. Nuvolari Lenard has created an interior tailored to each owner, but drawing on ‘relaxed luxury’ – a core tenet of the S1 project and NL model range.
“I think we’re good at what we do because we’re passionate about what we do. We treat each new project with fresh eyes as if it were our first and never allow ourselves to become disillusioned or cynical,” Nuvolari said.
“A crucial aspect of all our projects has been the fact that both Dan and I grew up sailing. I’ve always found it bizarre that there are a lot of people in this industry, from designers to builders, who don’t go boating or have a relationship with the sea. To me, that seems fundamental if you want to design or build yachts.”

Iconic Nuvolari Lenard designs by Lürssen include the 142m Nord, 122m Project Jag (still in build), 115m Ahpo and 86m Quattroelle, while Oceanco builds include the 107m sailing yacht Black Pearl, 85m Vibrant Curiosity and 82m Alfa Nero.
The studio’s designs built by CRN include the 72m M/Y 139 launched this year, 67m Project Maranello (still in build), 60m M/Y 141 delivered last year, 72m Azteca and the 55m Atlante.
