Monaco Yacht Show preview: Part One

The Monaco Yacht Show looks set to enjoy another strong edition, with a typically strong line-up of megayachts complemented by an interesting variety of sub-50m production and semi-production models.

The Monaco Yacht Show is on course for another busy edition, with organisers confident the number of superyachts exhibiting inside Port Hercules from September 27-30 will top last year’s tally of 117. Almost that many yachts were listed by organisers over a month ahead of the show, with well over 40 listed as 2023 launches and exhibitors evenly split between shipyards and brokerage houses.

The line-up includes the 97.2m Lürssen megayacht Carinthia VII, designed by Tim Heywood and launched in 2002. However, for the first time, she’s being presented to the charter market, where she’s represented exclusively by Fraser, which is jointly exhibiting the 319ft megayacht with Lürssen at the show and displaying several other superyachts.

Carinthia VII was sold to her new owner by Fraser just ahead of last year’s Monaco Yacht Show and this year will reveal the results of its extensive refit at Lürssen’s Hamburg facilities. With Italy-based Bizzozero Cassina Architects overseeing design of the refit, changes include redesigned exterior decks with new lounge and living areas and a new 12m (39ft) pool and fitness room.

The 97m Carinthia VII

Peter Lürssen, Managing Partner of Lürssen, said: “I am very proud that after building Carinthia VII, we have now been able to participate in her new lease of life with an extensive refit. She remains a very particular vessel and is a testament to the solidity of our German engineering and manufacture.”

Mark Duncan, Fraser’s Director of Business Development & Marketing, added: “When speaking with clients after their charters, it’s fascinating to listen to which aspects of their experience resonate with them. For most it’s the crew, the food, the toys and the locations that always rate highly.

“For some, though, it’s very much about the yacht itself – the layouts, design, space, features and ambience. We suspect Carinthia VII is going to be as much a part of those after-charter dinner conversations as the unforgettable moments we know she’s going to help create for those who decide to book something exceptional.”

Other large yachts lined up for this year’s Monaco Yacht Show include the 90m Lürssen Phoenix 2, a 2010 build exhibited by Cecil Wright & Partners, while fellow brokerage houses had reserved slots for megayachts in the region of 90m.

The 83.5m Savannah

Feadship is exhibiting the 83.5m Savannah delivered in the Netherlands in 2015, while new builds include the 78m O’Rea by Golden Yachts of Greece and 80m Leona by Bilgin, the Turkish yard also showing the 42m Kasif.

The Italian Sea Group is showing the 75m Admiral Kensho delivered in 2021 and the new 55m Admiral Silver Star featuring interiors by Giorgio Armani, with the 20m Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 among the smaller yachts on show.

New builds from 60-69m include the 66m Alchemy by Italy’s Rossinavi and the Amels 60 Come Together (2022) and Entourage (2023) from the 197ft Limited Editions series featuring exterior design by Monaco-based Espen Øino and naval architecture by Damen Yachting.

Palumbo Superyachts is presenting Isa’s Classic 65 Resilience and Granturismo 45 UV II, while there are three Lürssen brokerage yachts in the 60-69m size range.

Camper & Nicholsons is displaying five brokerage yachts: the 55m Feadships Kahalani (2010) and Sea Huntress (1997), 52m Amels Were Dreams (2008), 50m Heesen Van Tom (2018) and 43m CRN Only Eighty (2013), while Burgess is also exhibiting multiple models.
