Leopard is scheduled to stage the European premiere of its 40 Powercat at the International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte in the south of France from April 12-16. The model’s world premiere was held at this year’s Miami International Boat Show, following construction and sea trials in South Africa.

With its sharp lines, the Leopard 40PC is identifiable as part of the new generation of Leopard power catamarans led by the 53PC that debuted in 2020 and followed by the 46PC that premiered last year.

Franck Bauguil, Leopard’s VP Yacht Ownership & Product Development, said: “The Leopard 40PC is a totally new model, in line with the 53PC and 46 PC. It offers an entirely new volume and comfort, particularly in the cabins.

“Finally, the performance at sea – speed, fuel consumption, stability and reliability – is in line with Leopard Catamarans’ world leadership in this segment.”

Like on its Powercat sisters and the brand’s sailing range, the side glazing on the 40PC runs the length of the planking. The flybridge, which Leopard describes as “the largest ever seen on a 40 footer”, features a C-shaped sofa with a table to starboard, and a sofa and wet bar to port, plus the upper helm.

Other exterior spaces include the transoms, aft cockpit and foredeck sunpads accessible by the side decks or through the forward saloon door, a Leopard innovation present on all the brand’s models since 2010.

Forward of the cockpit’s sofa and table, the large saloon door slides open to allow access into the interior, where there’s an L-shaped galley on the port side and refrigeration to starboard. The saloon features an L-shaped sofa to port and a facing chair and the lower helm to starboard.

The three cabins in the hulls all have generous island beds and sea views, while the two bathrooms featuring a separate shower are located in the passageway on the port side and forward on the starboard side.

The 40PC is equipped with twin 250hp, 320hp or 370hp engines, topping 20 knots and cruising at 17 knots with the latter.

Alexander Simonis of Simonis Voogd Design, naval architect for all Leopard models, said: “The new Leopard 40PC is a smaller version of the Leopard 53PC and 46PC, yet offers a similar comfort level and performance at 40ft.

“However, it has been our biggest challenge and one of the main reasons for this is that powercats get much more weight and trim sensitive as they get smaller, especially shorter. Intense research into our CFD (computational fluid dynamics) tools has enabled us to achieve exceptional performance in this size.”

The Leopard 40PC will also be offered for charter and owners under a management programme at The Moorings, where it will join the fleet under the name Moorings 403PC.
