The hull of the first Amels 60 superyacht has arrived at Damen Yachting’s outfitting yard in the Netherlands. The hull was constructed at Damen Yachting’s hull-building facility in Gdynia, next to Gdansk on Poland’s north coast.
One of three Amels 60 yachts now under construction, the 197-footer with an exterior by Espen Øino is scheduled for delivery to an experienced Amels owner in spring 2022 and represents a new generation of Limited Editions yachts.
The first Amels 60 will feature an owner-specified metallic Pebble Grey hull with Matterhorn White and Super Jet Black superstructure. The 830GT yacht’s features include a huge open sun deck, 9m luxury tender, hybrid power and propulsion technology.
Amels has delivered more than 40 Limited Editions yachts from 2007, all with exterior designs by Tim Heywood. Øino was appointed to design the new Amels 60 and was delighted to see photos of the first hull.
“It’s certainly nice to see some pictures of the hull. A lot of people have complimented us on her looks. She looks beautiful, like what I had in my head,” Øino said.
“The thing with modelling in 3D is that you get few surprises, but still nothing replaces the first time you go on board. When you go on board, it comes alive and you know if the spaces feel right, so I’m looking forward to visiting the shipyard.”
Damen Yachting’s interior team and Winch Design are creating the bespoke interiors. Jim Dixon, Director Yachts & Aviation at Winch Design, says the custom interiors capture the feel and style of a relaxed family home on the water, promoting a ‘calm atmosphere and involuntary relaxation’.
“For the most part, we have used pure and natural materials to emphasise the relaxed ‘home at the beach’ spirit of the interior,” Dixon says. “However, we have added layers of surface interest to materials such as stones and timbers to create unique and tactile finishes.”
