An impressive 21 yachts have entered the first-ever Beneteau Cup Hong Kong (May 15-16), which will be run from Aberdeen Boat Club’s Middle Island clubhouse. The two-day event is organised by Beneteau Asia-Pacific and the brand’s long-term dealer Simpson Marine, and is expected to become an annual event and the brand’s flagship event in Asia.

Over half of the entries are from the First line of models, with the Oceanis and Sense ranges also having a strong presence. The largest yachts include the Oceanis 51.1 Legende II (Pascal Martin), Sense 51 Lottie (Gregory Robinson), Sense 50 Sea Monkey (Henry Lu) and Oceanis 48.1 Captain Ernie (Thomas Kwan).

The Oceanis 46.1 Freedom owned by Mike Simpson, Managing Director of Simpson Marine, is among other big boats along with the First 47 Polarstar III (TC Leung), two Sense 46s Generations (Eddy Lee) and Arete (Jake Lynch), First 45 Sparkles (Paul Coladonato) and First 44.7 Harpseal (Raymond Yip).

Saturday will feature an Island Race starting late morning to be followed in the afternoon by fun water activities, and then a French Antilles-themed awards ceremony and dinner party at the Middle Island clubhouse. Sunday features a Pursuit Race followed by the presentation of the Beneteau Cup to the overall winner.

The event is supporting Splash, a charitable foundation teaching under-resourced communities how to swim. Splash currently works with domestic workers, children from low-income families, and youngsters with special needs.
