For the 22nd straight year, Azimut-Benetti has topped the Global Order Book for 24m-plus superyachts. And for the second year, Italy’s Ferretti Group and British builders Sunseeker and Princess are not included on the list, with Boat International stating last year it was “unable to independently verify their total length of construction”.
Azimut-Benetti topped the 2022 list with 128 projects totalling 4,601m in length, for an average length of 35.9m. Its number of projects rose 28 per cent and total length increased 31 per cent from the 2021 ranking, when it had 100 projects and a total length of 3,521m.
Sanlorenzo is again in second place after its order book also increased significantly, from 86 projects and 3,089m to 117 projects and 4,159m. Taiwan’s Ocean Alexander overtook Feadship to move from fourth to third, jumping from 35 projects and 1,119m in the 2021 ranking to 47 projects and 1,494m in 2022.
German megayacht builder Lurssen is listed in fifth – topping average project length at 70.1m – ahead of Italy’s Overmarine (Mangusta), Dutch conglomerate Damen Yachting (also Amels), The Italian Sea Group (Admiral, Tecnomar), Taiwan’s Horizon and Italy’s Baglietto.
Azimut-Benetti’s order book accounted for 12.5 per cent of the total number of projects recorded at 186 shipyards on five continents. The Group has reported an order book totalling €1.5 billion (US$1.7 billion) and value of production for the current season forecast to exceed €1 billion, a 20 per cent rise on 2020/2021.
Giovanna Vitelli, Vice President of Azimut-Benetti and daughter of Azimut founder Paolo Vitelli, said: “Our Group owes its long-standing leadership to the ability to build highly innovative yachts that are greatly appreciated by the market and cover the typically Italian size range of up to 50m. But this important segment is also joined by numerous larger steel and aluminium superyacht projects, traditionally the preserve of northern European shipyards.
“We are the leading player today and have been for over 20 years because we are the only Group in the world to cover both these size ranges with models of undisputed success, a client-centric approach and high build quality.”
Marine Italia represents Azimut in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangdong, Taiwan and Singapore, and its recent sales included Azimut’s flagship Grande Trideck and a Benetti Oasis 40M, both scheduled to arrive in Singapore in 2023.
