AkzoNobel’s yacht coatings division celebrated the success of its innovative, revolutionary topcoat, Awlgrip® HDT, at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (May 19-22). The AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings team was on stand 138 and was again a key sponsor of The Captain’s Lounge, a custom-built networking zone for captains and industry representatives.
Launched in the Asia-Pacific region last year, Awlgrip® HDT (High Definition Technology) provides the highest level of performance and beauty for a topcoat, allowing owners to enhance and protect their boats with a mirror-like finish.
The high-performance, repairable topcoat outshines traditional versions while using significantly lower VOC content than typical high-gloss coatings, so setting new standards in sustainability. Combining repairability, hardness and micro-scratch resistance with superior gloss retention, Awlgrip® HDT keeps its clarity and distinction of image for longer.
Michael van Harmelen, Regional Marketing Manager for Europe and APAC, says: “As an industry leader in luxury yacht coatings we’re always striving to innovate. That’s why we designed Awlgrip® HDT – with input from applicators around the world – to offer a coatings solution that can match and exceed the needs and expectations of our customers and their boats.
“Awlgrip® HDT combines the functionality of a hard, durable finish (Awlgrip topcoat) with a slightly softer, repairable finish (Awlcraft® 2000), so it not only keeps boats looking at their best for longer but is able to perform at a higher level to withstand any environment. The product shows our steadfast commitment to pushing the boundaries of product performance and how our coatings play a vital role in helping to protect the environment.
“We have enjoyed a great first year with Awlgrip HDT in the Asia-Pacific region and were excited to be able to share this success, as well as showcase a number of our other innovations, at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.”
