Simpson Marine has announced the first sale of an Aquila 70 Luxury in Asia, with the power catamaran scheduled for delivery to an owner in Indonesia in mid-2022. The Aquila 70 Luxury (Review, Issue 59) was officially premiered at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March 2021 and the model’s order book is now full for the next 24 months.
Aquila initially unveiled the 70 Luxury in the US in parallel with the 54 Yacht. Last year, Simpson Marine sold a 54 Yacht into Thailand, and the hull is set to arrive in Pattaya in the second quarter of 2022.
More recent regional sales by Simpson Marine include three orders for the hugely popular Aquila 36 Sport into Singapore, where an Aquila 44 Yacht – another pillar model of the brand – has also been sold. In December, Simpson Marine Malaysia staged the regional debut of the brand-new Aquila 28 Molokai with showings in Port Dickson and Penang, with the boat sold soon afterwards.
However, the 70 Luxury is arguably the most eagerly awaited Aquila model in Asia, especially with the potential to explore the vast Indonesian archipelago, encompassing over 17,000 islands. Conceived to replicate the power and lines of a motor yacht, the 21m model is faster than most powercats of its size, with a top speed of 27 knots.
Paul Whelan, Simpson Marine Indonesia Country Manager, said: “It’s an honour to represent Aquila in Indonesia and with the largest archipelago in Asia, the Aquila 70 Luxury is the perfect powercat to explore this incredible part of the world.
“I’m excited to be working with a very technical owner on this build and combined with his specific custom modifications, we are creating a very special Aquila perfectly suited to long-range cruising with his young family.”
Aquila was founded in 2012 by US dealer MarineMax and builder Sino Eagle Group, with two-thirds of the materials used in each hull sourced from OEM suppliers in the US and Europe. The brand has grown into a world leader in the production and popularisation of powercats.
Yvan Eymieu, Aquila’s International Sales Director, said: “From day one of building Aquila, we set ourselves apart by having the highest quality control possible. This started with the production facility and fibreglass building techniques using resin infusion in humidity and temperature-controlled lamination bays.”
Simpson Marine started representing Aquila in 2018 and has already delivered the brand’s powercats to Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
