Sunreef Yachts has been commissioned to build hull two of the Sunreef 43M Eco superyacht, just four months after publicising the sale of the first. Sunreef announced the sale of the first 43M Eco during the Polish builder’s 20th anniversary party at the Monaco Yacht Show last September.
Based on a design for the Sunreef 43M sailing cat (formerly Sunreef 140), the shipyard has described the 140ft superyacht with a 50ft 6in beam as the “world’s biggest electric luxury catamaran”.
The 43M Eco has a beam of 15.4m and a 49m mast
Sunreef has been developing solar-electric sailing and power catamarans through its Eco range, launching the first hulls of the 80 Eco and 60 Eco sailing cats last year. The Sunreef 43M Eco is similarly designed to provide an emissions-free cruising experience in complete silence.
Using green hi-tech solutions developed in-house by Sunreef, the 43m catamaran will feature composite-integrated solar panels built into the hull sides, superstructure and bimini, delivering up to 60kWp.
The ‘Ocean Lounge’ includes the aft platform and drop-down sides
With custom-engineered batteries and state-of-the-art electric engines, the 43M Eco will offer up to 12 hours of e-motoring at eco speed. The catamaran will have a cruising speed of 11 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots.
The rig includes 1,000sqm of upwind sail area and 1,600sqm downwind sail area, along with a 49m mast. While under sail, the yacht’s hydro-generators will provide a steady supply of green energy.
The central hydraulic platform can carry a tender
One of the catamaran’s standout features is the vast beach club or ‘Ocean Lounge’, which combines the aft platform and fold-down balconies on either side. Dedicated to sunbathing, lounging and watersports, the lounge provides direct access to voluminous toy storage and diving gear, with an ‘invisible’ aft garage able to stow two jet-skis and other water toys.
Sunreef, which is represented in Singapore by Hong Seh Marine, builds its catamarans in two facilities in Gdansk on Poland’s north coast and is developing another facility in Ras Al Khaimah in UAE.
