Thailand’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Board has approved Port Takola Yacht Marina & Boatyard’s application for a marina expansion up to 300 berths and 15,000sqm of boatyard service area.

The expansion will offer an extra-wide concrete pontoon berth to accommodate yachts from 10m to 45m. A work berth will be available on a north section of the marina harbour. The boatyard will increase its capacity from 9,000sqm to 15,000sqm, its lifting capacity will increase from 38 tonnes to 80 tonnes, while a boatshed will be available for refits of yachts up to 25m.

Matthew na Nagara, General Manager of Port Takola and a former Chairman of the Thai Yachting Business Association, said: “We are excited that our EIA application has been approved. Port Takola has had a modest start, but we are proud of our steady development.

“We have had a great cruising community with several superyachts here, while charter yacht tenancy has also been increasing. This is due to our advantageous location that offers year-round shelter and a convenient access from land and sea.”

Port Takola is a 10-minute drive from Ao Nang and 40 minutes from Krabi International Airport, while Krabi is situated in the Phang Nga Bay archipelago, Thailand’s most famous cruising ground. “The location makes the marina an ideal home port as well as a port of call,” Nagara said.

Port Takola is being developed by Nagara and his father, Surgeon Admiral Suriya (RTN), and is built on a century-old family estate called Isara Estuary, located in the Krabi river mouth. Transforming the former shrimp farm into a full-service marina began in 2010.

Phase one commenced operation in 2018 with 50 wet berths, 50 dry berths, a 38-tonne Roodberg trailer boat lift, fuel dock and café. The marina recently expanded Pier G with 25 more berths, ranging from 15m to 45m.
