The WHY200 has an overall length of 27m but a load line length of under 24m

Wally has revealed the spectacular design of its WHY200, which will debut at the Ferretti Group Private Preview in Monaco at the beginning of September. The name represents the widebody yacht’s 200GT volume, a remarkable offering on an overall length of 27m (88ft 9in), yet the yacht has a sub-24m load line length, with the ‘pleasure craft’ classification greatly reducing crew, operating and berthing costs.

The WHY200 has more than 200sqm (2,153sqft) of indoor living space and 144sqm (1,550sqft) of exterior space, which Ferretti Group says is ‘up to 50 per cent more living space than traditional yachts of its length’ and offers ‘the living space and lifestyle advantages of a 33m (110ft) superyacht’.

Stefano de Vivo, Wally Managing Director, said: “Through the WHY200, we are challenging preconceived notions of what a yacht should be and how it can be used. It is a platform that can be enjoyed by the whole family or groups of friends, without compromise.

“In keeping the yacht registration under 24m load line, we have been able to optimise the costs of running and berthing, while still providing the space and volume benefits of a much larger vessel thanks to its innovative full-wide-body design.”

Wally founder Luca Bassani designed the yacht alongside Ferretti Group’s Engineering department, with Laurent Giles NA handling naval architecture and A. Vallicelli & C Studio responsible for interior design.

An extended pillarless overhang above the main deck aft and flanking glass panels provide shelter to the alfresco dining and lounging area, which has unobstructed views on three sides and flows into the open-space saloon past sliding full-height doors.

The main deck has no side decks and an open-plan saloon that benefits from a structural central carbon-fibre staircase linking the three decks, while the 37sqm (400sqft) owner’s suite in the bow has remarkable views through windows wrapped around the prow.

Bassani, Wally’s Chief Designer, said: “We have had a longstanding vision to create a wrap-around main deck in glass that would provide so many lifestyle benefits to the owner and now finally the technology has made this possible, unlocking game-changing extra interior volume on this deck.

“It has allowed us to create a sensational and unprecedented 37sqm owner’s suite at the bow, which takes the on board experience to a whole new level. Imagine waking up to uninterrupted 200-degree views through vast windows in the bow, as if you’re floating above the water.”

On the flybridge, the wheelhouse and sky lounge are stylishly encased in glass with a carbon superstructure that echoes the clean, angular aesthetic of the Wallypower motor yachts.

The WHY200 is the first Wally Hybrid Yacht, optimised for both full- and semi-displacement cruising. With an adaptive multi-propulsion system, the WHY200 has been designed to cruise at an impressive 20 knots in hyper displacement mode. And when speed is less important than efficiency, the yacht performs economically in long-range displacement mode.

After exhaustive testing in a towing tank, the functionally-led hull form has been optimised to deliver a comfortable experience at a wide range of speeds.
