Benetti has celebrated the laying of the keel of the 62m FB283 with a traditional ‘coin ceremony’ in Livorno. The five-deck custom yacht has a steel displacement hull and aluminium superstructure, with exteriors and interiors by Giorgio M. Cassetta, and hull lines by Van Oossanen.
Dating back to ancient Roman times, the ‘coin ceremony’ tradition features the placing of a coin under the keel to bring good luck to the vessel and to its crew and passengers.
Sebastiano Fanizza, Benetti’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “To build FB283, Benetti is making use of its great experience in the realisation of custom yachts, proving to be able to make the most of its know-how, winning production and engineering processes. The owner appreciated this aspect along with Benetti’s innovation capabilities and the yard’s ability to give life to his requests.”
The owner’s requirements for the custom yacht are speed, silent running, autonomy and fun for the family. With a tapering stern and long bow, FB283 is expected to have a cruising speed of around 20 knots and significant autonomy. The yacht also features lots of storage space for diving equipment, a tender and water toys.
Cassetta said: “Right from the outset, we established a transparent and constructive relationship with the owner, which made it possible to define this exciting project in a wealth of detail. We’re very grateful for being given the freedom to envisage a project that will be a milestone for our firm.”
Nicola Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management acted as pre-purchase advisor and will manage the build process as owner’s representative and project manager.
